Here’s two logo pitches we did a while ago. They were created for a competition for a new range of products produced with pure glacier water from Greenland. We did two pitches. You can download the presentation by clicking the links in the bottom of this post.

The year is coming to an end and it’s been a fantastic year for Flash and websites in general. The evolution in New Media is moving onwards faster than most can keep up, but that only means more possibilities and more power for those of us who can! We had the inspiration for the background from some groovy  patterns from the 70-ties:

The idea was to give the graphic layers of elements, so the eye could go exploring. The large circles was meant to make a calm background for the many hand drawn faces etc.

Colors

Rar Bar wanted to maintain their original colors in the new color palette: Red, orange and olive green. Besides those, we looked for warm, cosy colors suitable for a cafe/bar. Because the fabric where going to be used for cushion cover etc. in the cafe, the colors had to be practical too. Coffee stains and beer splashes on a delicate mint green was not what we had in mind.

Vectorized drawings

There where no limits when we started to draw the smaller elements for the fabric. We started out with (naughty) hand drawings. Afterwards we scanned them into Photoshop and converted them to vector paths. It made it possible to enlarge the elements without loosing the hand drawn, raw look in the stroke.

A vectorized hand drawing is heavy stuff. Just take a look at all those vector points!:

Brainstorming

In fact the sketch/brainstorm process was rather long! We wanted the fabric to be not only special, but undoubtable unique for Rar Bar, embracing the funny, cosy mood that’s the essence of the place.

Drafts/Combining the figures and the pattern

Wholehearted and with a dauntless pen our graphic designer started out with some very, eh – naked sketches..!

Finding inspiration

Mr. Doodle machine was a giant inspiration when we looked for a style for the drawings. The happy, simple and naive line was easy to transfer and adapt to the Rar Bar ideas.

And here is one of ours:

 The essential idea behind the drawings was to make everybody feel welcome at Rar Bar. The faces was also meant to be used for amusement and pastime: “Find your Rar Bar personality” – are you a princess or a pirate today?

Heres a bit of the final fabric. IRL in measures that correspond to 2m x 2,5m: 

We’d now reached the point where there was only one thing to find out: Where do you go when you want to print 100m fabric? That’s a tuff one! After a long search we finally found someone qualified for the job.

We send our photographer to Rarbar to do a couple of shots of our work!

Defining the range of material to be produced

The graphic design was not only meant to be use on the (100m long and 2,5 m width!) fabric. The entire graphic identity was going to be replaced with the new design.

Customizing the fabric

After the fabric was printed, two designers went crazy armed with scissors and needles. A bit anxious about what the outcome might be, we followed the very exiting process from a slight distance. The whole proces resulted in lamps, wall decoration, cushions, menu cards, business cards, letterhead, envelopes and final – Rar Bars site was going to be changed. We designed and programmed a complete Flashbased site for Rarbar.

What we had in mind was letters with a modern style, slightly rounded off to avoid shape edges. Furthermore we set the black tint on the new letters to 50% to lighten the whole impression.

Coming to the business minded audience, blue is a safe horse to bet on. So we added a little freshness to the gray shade with a clear blue on the house/a-letter.

The new logo is mush more stylish and “right-on”.

The assignment also contained designing and developing the rest of the Skanlux identity and re-brand.

Skanlux’ print-identity

Together with our photographer we went through 2 days of shooting pictures at some of Skanlux’ high-end houses. The pictures went through editing and is used in printed catalogues, papers and web. Below you see a small collection of the pictures:
